“I don't want dancers who want to dance. I want dancers who have to dance.” - George Balanchine

Eleni Ioannou

I first began dancing when I was 5 years old. I started the RAD ballet at “Angelica’s Dance Studio” but ended up continuing my ballet at “Dance Works” where Clare Merchant Andreou taught me and prepared me for my dance studies in the UK. From 2004-2007 I attended Northern Ballet School in Manchester, where I studied Musical Theatre and graduated with National Diploma in Professional Dance leading to BA.

I performed in various parts i.e. Chicago, Lion King, Cabaret and many others. There I got experience in various subjects such as: Jazz, Double Work, Acro, Hip- Hop Workshops, Contemporary, Singing, Tap and many others that helped me improve as a dancer. During my time in the UK, I had also started my studies at the Royal Academy of Dance where I successfully finished my studies as a ballet teacher, doing CBTS= Certificate In Ballet Teaching Studies.

After graduating in 2007, I returned to Cyprus where I taught/choreographed ballet, modern, jazz and Hip-Hop in various schools. Also owned “Dancers Footprints” title at “Eurogym” till 2009. After a lot of hard work I decided I wanted to take my education a step further; therefore I decided to go Los Angeles, to get a taste of the dance world there and see if I had any chance in succeeding as a dancer there. Unfortunately things didn’t come my way, but it was definitely a worthwhile experience for me.

My dancing has definitely improved and I saw what the real world was all about. After that, I decided to slow down things a little bit. Back in Cyprus, featured in Lyrical Eye’s “Cyprus” video. Started working at “Dance Works”, as secretary, and helped out with shows, exams etc. Recently taught a few Hip-Hop Workshops. Time and future will show the rest…
